Urine therapy, why do so many people believe in it?!

Posted by Dental News Team On February - 17 - 2010

What’s all the hype about urine therapy?

Urine is basically free of any micro-organisms (bacteria, fungi, parasites), free of viruses and usually contains very few substances with any immunological potential – proteins.

So this means that urine is “practically” sterile – except of course if someone has a urinary tract infection 🙂 So urine was probably the cleanest substance that field workers had at their disposal for cleaning wounds.

Back then (though not anymore) it was actually a good way to wash out a wound, in fact you could just pee on a wound yourself.

But urine also contains many harmful substances, not necessarily things like heavy metals, but simply salt, which is found in urine, and is harmful because the body has to make an extra effort to get rid of it through the kidneys. This is how the body maintains its chemical balance (homeostasis). So the health benefits of urine, which the body has to work hard to remove, are more than open to doubt.

„Peeing on wounds“ seems to have eventually led people to start drinking urine. There are many theories on how this occult practice arose, but actually drinking urine is just sick, that’s all.

So, just take our word for it, and if you have a wound, just use some medication to cleanse it, and if you still feel ill, then leave the urine and just drink a glass of cool, clean tap water. And if you have any questions on dentistry, simply visit checkdent.com!

Help, do I have too many acids in my body?

Posted by Dental News Team On February - 15 - 2010

Let’s make our bodies less ‘acidic’!

The media are full of ads on how to „purify and detoxify“ your body or remove excess acids from it. Is it even possible for our bodies to have too many acids or bases in them?
Yes, but if that ever happens then you’re dead.

The electrolytic balance and the related pH value of your body is very closely monitored and regulated by your lungs and kidneys. A normal pH value ranges between 7.35-7.42.

The pH value can neither get too low nor too high in a living organism, because the proteins in the blood would fail – they lose their 3-dimensional form and start to form clumps (coagulate) and become useless. Much the same thing can be observed when you cook chicken soup and a brown scum starts to form on the top – these are coagulated proteins.

So rest assured, if you are at all capable of reading this article than you and your body are not overly ‘acidic’, although you may feel irritated for other reasons!

Can your intestines fill up with excess waste?

Posted by Dental News Team On February - 12 - 2010

Can your intestines fill up with excess waste?

No! Our intestinal membranes are renewed every 3-5 days, the small intestine taking slightly longer than the large intestine.
Today we will start at the end of our digestive system – in the intestines!

Simply think of the upper layer of the intestinal membrane as consisting of many little cells, which are stacked on top of each other. New cells form in the base layer and move to the top, pushing away the old cells in the process. The more roughage we eat, the more cells get „rubbed off“ – a kind of peeling.

Now it’s obvious that these kinds of „cleansing“ treatments – which require days of drinking only fruit or vegetable juices are actually counter-productive, as the „peeling effect“ of roughage is lost. Although protrusions may form  – known as diverticules, they are also not exactly conducive to cleansing.

What are diverticules?
Our skin ages, and so do our organs, the muscle network (2) which surrounds the intestinal membrane (3) develops tears, through which the membrane sometimes protrudes – known as a pseudo-diverticule (1).
If the entire intestinal wall protrudes, both membrane and muscle layer, then this is a true diverticule (4). Feces rarely accumulates in the diverticules of the large intestine, as these are too small, but if it does, then the whole area gets inflamed – and then you simply have a painful inflammation of the large intestine.

The feces, intestine and purification business is doing quite well, the whole terminology and topic scream „slag“. And if we just repeat it to ourselves often enough, we start believing in it … we are carrying around excess substances!

But our bodies do not quite work this way – there is no way for ‘slag’ to accumulate … and thus no need to ‘flush out’ our intestines! Many people confuse the increased level of alertness (vigilance)when hungering with “cleanliness” and feeling tired after a meal (postprandial tiredness) as an indication of excess waste and “slag”. But these are two normal and ancient  vegetative mechanisms of our body – no food -> greater alertness -> better hunting. Eating -> exhaution -> rest -> more energy for digestion.

Maybe the best way to avoid “excess waste” in industrialized countries is to eat less, and stick to a more balanced diet, which is also better for our teeth!

Mercury in amalgamate fillings and alternatives

Posted by Dental News Team On February - 11 - 2010

Are there alternatives to amalgamate fillings – and if so, what kinds?

We have already talked about mercury poisoning, and also on how the level of mercury in saliva is measured!

Amalgamate traditionally has been, and still is, the most popular material used for fillings. Amalgamate fillings seal teeth better than do plastic fillings (in the side teeth), last longer, and do less damage to the teeth.

But we still advise patients to opt for other types of fillings, assuming they have the money  – why is this?

  • Well, over the course of time amalgamate fillings tend to come loose, no matter how well you brush, which is why most insurance companies pay for new fillings about every 2 years. Amalgamate changes over the years, while   gold, ceramic, or titanium fillings do not. The last in the list require very precise work, or else they will do you no good at all, so don’t hesitate to ask your dentist how often s/he performs this type of work. Here is a link to a video on ceramic inlays! After several re-fillings not much is left of the tooth!
  • This does not provide for a pleasant appearance, and furthermore
  • drilling and setting fillings always releases small amounts of mercury – which do not pose a danger to you, but add up to a problem for dentists and their teams!

Even proponents of amalgamate fillings cannot counter this argument, but if you just don’t have the dough, then this type of filling does more than well enough – at any rate better than plastic!

Detoxification

Posted by Dental News Team On February - 8 - 2010

Can the human body accumulate toxins?

No, but there are ads everywhere promising thorough cleansing. So why do we all feel so „toxic“ and furthermore, whoever said that things like drinking urine is „healthy“?
We will discuss this all next days…

Extracting heavy metals, alternative medicine, homeopathic medicine – You’ve already watched a video on homeopathic treatment and read about medical statistics – if not, then simply click the links, these reports are just brief introductions…

Don’t get us wrong, we neither adhere exclusively to conventional medicine nor do we condemn alternative treatment methods. A cure is a cure, no matter what you call it. But a treatment method/therapy should definitely provide some significant benefit to the patient, that makes it a good treatment method/therapy!

People unfortunately are prone to choosing extremes over the middle of the road. The big thing in the 70s, thanks to the practice of foot disinfection in baths, was the belief that cleaning agents can kill any and all bacteria. The 90s ushered in a gentle counter-revolution which nowadays leads hard-line ecology freaks to designate the fuel diesel as an „eco“ product!

Eco or non-eco, one thing is sure: eat healthy, do sports, watch your health!
